It all started a few months ago with Nick seeing an 1800ti in the southwest of France
It was a restoration project but it seemed sound.
After getting my haed round it I just missed it on a few hours, the seller just made arrangements with a Belgium guy to come ant take a look the next day.
I was pretty gutted, but it can't be helped (I think I wasn't that collected when we spoke, was I Nick)
So the buying virus was awake again so I was franticly looking for a new project
Few weeks later, when I was in Surinam, Anders emailed me thet there were 2 BMW 700 coupe's for sale in Italy
one of them a nice pale blue one for a nice price. Contacted the seller, recieved more pictures. It was nice, solid needed some work on the interior but ather then that okay. But beeing in Surinam I couldn't really do anything
So when I got beack and called the seller that I wanted to buy it, it was just sold.
This only ment that I was spending even more time on the net to find that one car, that great buy.
And just a couple days later, Friday Januari 15 I saw on Leboncoin a 1600 NK from 66 and the pictures looked amazing, and for a absolute steel. The only thing was that the engine didn;t run and the clutch wasn't working. The ad was just on the websit for 2 hours.
And a 1600 is not the most exinting NK but because of that they are not around anymore, I've just seen pics of 2 others that survived, can't even remember seeing one at the Bavaria Tour in 2006
I emailed the seller that I wanted to buy it and that I will make arrangements to pick the car up that weekend (thinking it was in Normandie, same name of the town). After a few hours I decided to call the seller, just to make sure. I told him that I wanted the car and that it was sold, after a few times he started to get the message that I was really going to pick it up and that he could cancel someone else who was vaguely interested and was going to visit Saturday.
So I started to make deffinitive arrangements, getting a trailer and a car which could handle a cartrailer (including extra driver)Took me all afternoon calling al my Dutch friends, all of them thought it sounden great but everybody had prior engagement, exams the next week or just recieving the keys to his new house and so on and so on. In the end I finaly found someone that was crazy enough to spend a whole weekend getting a car.
Then it happened, I think it was around 20:00 friday evening
Call from the seller
He's very sorry but he is not going to sell the car anymore, his son wants to have it.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I kept saying that I really liked it and that I hope that it wasn't going on sale again in a couplle of weeks. We talked a bit about my cars and that it would be a great addition to the collection. Funny enough he also started asking me about the NK estate, if I knew that or if I knew one for sale.
We ended by saying that I would sent him some pictures of my cars and that he was going to send me the pictures of the NK etstate.
So I emailed him with the pics of my cars and again saying that I was really disapointed and if he was going to change his mind about selling that he should call me.
He emailded me the same evening thanking me for my pics and sending some pictures of the estate. I replied that we were just discussing these cars. I ended the email asking him if he was still certain about not selling, that I would provide a good home for the car and that I would restore it to its former glory and that I hoped that I would hear from him again.
And guess who called at 11:00 the next day, well you know otherwise this wouldn't be in this section
He said that he wanted me to have it, his son just wanted an old car and not espacially this one
Getting the car
Saturday morning 03:00 we set of to get my new car from France
We arrived at 10:30

Got a warm welcome but first the car, is it really as good as it looked.
Well it is very solid, all original. In very good shape.
It needs some work, small dents in the rear, some rustspots at the edges, but nothing that can't be polished and treated. The seat has a little tear in it, but fixable. Only thing that I really need t think about getting right is a 5 cm small crack at the top of the rear seat.
the car still has all the original parts, the long gearbox the long differential etc etc
It lookes like that it has BBS 3 piece rims but they are fakes, stil will look very nice on an 02
As a special feature it has a anti glare divice on the front window. It 's kind of a blacklight which should prevent glare from headlights. Very in period so I hope the Polizei decides it can stay.
After having a drink and loading all the spare parts (most of it small items, but nice) and getting the car on the trailer. He allready took care of the sticking brakepads, a simple push and job done.
Time for lunch, at least that how the seller planned it. Roast chicken wit a nice pate and home made fries. Great, very special indeed. (but our plan to be home at 7 wasn't going to happen
So we talked about cars, about getting married in this car, about his son (22 ) wrecking all the cars and motorcycle's he ever used from his dad. (one of the reasons he thought the car would be better of in my hands), about the 50 or more calls he had for the car, from spain, germany, belgium, and the netherlands (Eric???).
At 14:00 we said that we really needed to go, and as a going away present he gave both of us a bottle of champagne from the Loire( so not really champagne but same taste)
How much better can buying a car be?

We will probably stay in touch, might even see him at classic Le Mans this year
We arrived back at the luckup at 23:00, in the snow
got the car and the parts inside and went home for a well deserved sleep.
I will keep you up to date on the progress of reviving the car.
